Avignon
Ode to the night
Friday 24 October 2025 from 8 pm.
Event in Avignon :
Symphonic concert by the Orchestre national Avignon-Provence. Program: Richard Wagner, Fabien Cali, Arnold Schoenberg.
Three faces of the night and of a love transcended by life or death. Arranged by Thomas Dorsch, the Prelude and Isolde's Death, two crucial moments in Richard Wagner's opera Tristan and Isolde, invite us to imagine the impossible union of Tristan and Isolde, two star-crossed lovers in a legendary Middle Ages. Without transition, the Orchestre national Avignon-Provence presents the premiere of a lyrical orchestral piece by composer-in-residence Fabien Cali. Sung by contralto Sarah Laulan, this piece brings together Wagner's opera and Schoenberg's Transfigured Night, the composer's feverish declaration of love to the woman who haunts his dreams: Mathilde von Zemlinski.
