Concert by the Chœur Européen de Provence

Two contrasting and complementary visions of this timeless prayer will be explored: Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Magnificat, a Baroque masterpiece imbued with elegance and expressiveness, and John Rutter's Magnificat, a luminous, exhilarating contemporary work that brilliantly blends tradition and modernity.

The Magnificat is taken from the Gospel of St. Luke. It is the canticle sung by the Virgin Mary at the Visitation, expressing her joy and gratitude to God. This text has inspired many composers over the centuries, each bringing his or her own musical sensibility to it.
