Vaison-la-Romaine
Concert by the Chœur Européen de Provence
Sunday 1st of June 2025 at 6 pm.
Event in Vaison-la-Romaine :
Under the musical direction of Pascal Denoyer, the Chœur Européen honors the Magnificat, one of the greatest texts in the sacred music tradition.
With soloists Géraldine Jeannot (soprano), Chani Bauza (mezzo), Gabriel Rixte (tenor) and Raphaël Marbaud (bass). Two contrasting and complementary visions of this timeless prayer will be explored: Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Magnificat, a Baroque masterpiece imbued with elegance and expressiveness, and John Rutter's Magnificat, a luminous, exhilarating contemporary work that brilliantly blends tradition and modernity.
The Magnificat is taken from the Gospel of St. Luke. It is the canticle sung by the Virgin Mary at the Visitation, expressing her joy and gratitude to God. This text has inspired many composers over the centuries, each bringing his or her own musical sensibility to it.
