Vaison-la-Romaine
Concert du Chœur Européen de Provence et du Chœur Canta Ventur
Sunday 27 July 2025 at 5 pm.
Event in Vaison-la-Romaine :
Under the musical direction of Yohannette Bonicel and Pascal Denoyer, the Chœur Européen de Provence and the Chœur Canta Ventur join forces for a concert devoted to one of the greatest texts in the sacred music tradition: the Magnificat.
A presentation of two contrasting and complementary visions of this timeless prayer: - Giovanni Battista Pergolesi's Magnificat, a Baroque masterpiece of elegance and expressiveness. - John Rutter's Magnificat, a luminous, exhilarating contemporary work that brilliantly blends tradition and modernity.
The Magnificat is taken from the Gospel of St. Luke. It is the canticle sung by the Virgin Mary at the Visitation, expressing her joy and gratitude to God. This text has inspired many composers over the centuries, each bringing his or her own musical sensibility to it.
Two works, two worlds: - Pergolesi, master of the Italian Baroque, composes a Magnificat that is both luminous and intimate, where melodic élan blends with delicate fervor. - Rutter, a major figure in contemporary choral music, offers a festive, shimmering reading of the Magnificat, enriched by Latin-American influences and dazzling orchestral colors.
Through these two works, we invite you on a musical journey between tradition and modernity, between fervor and jubilation.
Accompaniment :
Catherine Sternis, piano
Michel Gastaud, percussion
Soloists :
Lise-Eléonore Ravot, soprano
Chani Bauza, mezzo
Gabriel Rixte, tenor
Raphaël Marbaud, bass
