A high-voltage, in camera encounter between friends. 1942, in occupied France, seven friends gather at the Pélissier family home for a birthday meal. The evening is going well when two German officers are shot dead at the foot of the building. In retaliation, Commandant Kaubach of the Gestapo storms the building, demanding two hostages in each apartment. However, as he recognized Victor Pélissier as a bookseller he had frequented and whose advice he appreciated, he granted the guests a two-hour "courtesy" period in which to choose the two hostages to be executed. The meal of the wild beasts can now begin... Saving one's skin at any cost, trampling on the rules of friendship and love, and resorting to every indignity: such is the framework of this edifying huis clos, imbued with cruelty and humor.
