Event in Vaison-la-Romaine :
Michèle Suquet exhibition at Station Galerie. She works in chamotte stoneware, in three colors, mainly with slabs and pellets... Opening on 19/04 at 6pm.
For this exhibition, Michèle Suquet presents "murmurations":
A murmuration is that fascinating phenomenon in the sky by which thousands of birds gather to form a living cloud, a vibrant, dancing, poetic body, almost a scripture to be seen and heard. My cloud "murmurations" are riddled with a multitude of hollows, impacts organized according to a multiple repetition. This alteration gives each shape an epidermis, a relief, sometimes a mesh that underlines the undulating movements, imparting a living, breathing quality. Colored engobes then radiate from this network of imprints, where, on stoneware left white, simple plays of light and cast shadows are organized.
Her work :
The slabs are first applied to counter-forms previously modelled and arranged for each piece, then turned upside down so that the whole form can be built upside down. Once the shape is complete, the surfaces are staked out at length with indentations of varying depths, sizes and tightness, smoothed and bristled to give each piece its own unique palpitation. Each piece requires several firings at medium and high temperatures (1000° to 1250°), depending on the stoneware used and the different applications of colored engobes and glazes. All his work is carried out in an electric kiln.
